How to play the Rhyme Game
Start with one word on the fourth beat. You do not have to write lyrics, find rhymes, or know how to rap.
Try a round →1. Read first, then get ready
Read the word or full line, then press Let’s play. Listen to one four-beat count-in; there are no extra waiting bars between lines. Start at 80 BPM and four bars for your first round.
2. Say the word on four
Let the first three beats go by. When the fourth pad lights up, say the large word aloud. The next line starts immediately on the next beat one. Its word or complete phrase is shown ahead in the next-line preview.
On the next bar, say night. Light and night rhyme because their ending sounds match.
3. Try a little more flow
Choose Follow a line to see a short phrase across the four pads. For example:
Then try Freestyle. The wide “Your own words” area marks where you improvise the beginning; finish your line with the displayed ending word. Expand Need an example? if you want an idea, then make a different line. You can say several syllables on a beat or leave a little silence. One word per pad is a beginner exercise, not a rule for all rap.
Where this practice comes from
Rap educator Cole Mize teaches an end-rhyme drill with supplied ending words and improvised phrases. The Introduction to Freestyle Rap course notes emphasize keeping the music flowing between turns. Our solo game adapts those ideas with a one-time count-in and a next-word preview. Say the word is our timing warm-up, not a claim to reproduce a traditional competitive rhyme game. Ending on four is a beginner constraint, not a rule for every rap performance.
What the controls do
- Beat: choose a mellow pattern or a busier arcade pattern.
- Tempo: slower gives you more time to think.
- Round: choose four, eight, or sixteen bars.
- Next words: practice another group of words.
- Pause: take a break and resume the same round.
- Stop: end the current round so you can change modes or choose new settings.
If you lose the beat
Pause, take a breath, and restart slowly. Say only the last word until the rhythm feels comfortable. If you switch tabs, the game pauses automatically.
